A Difficult Week

It's been a difficult week, but things are slowly returning to normal. Chip is on the mend, and our biggest challenges revolve around finding soft foods that he'll eat and finding ways to keep him occupied without risking further injury to his jaw. We let him play with the neighbor boys this morning and found him jumping on their trampoline...no good!!

Kim and I stayed with him in the hospital until he was released Wednesday around lunchtime. He's got a prescription for pain medication, but has had little trouble with pain from his injuries. He's looking forward to the first day of school next week, when he'll begin the 1st grade.

Today resembled a normal Saturday. Kim and I spent most of the day repairing fenceline while the girls did the barest minimum of housework they felt they could get by with and not be in trouble with mom and dad. Chip played lots of Wii and watched lots of TV. We had dinner around 6 and then went shopping at Target for a blender/food processor so we could do a better job preparing meals that fit the definition of Chip's soft diet.

Winding down for the day, Chip has already fallen asleep in the recliner while the girls get through their showers and snack time.

I'm glad it's a holiday weekend; it'll give us all a chance to recharge a bit before we launch into the moderate chaos of the new school year.

Part of me hopes it'll be more normal this year; then again, it's the crazy and unexpected in our lives that tend to leave lasting memories, and I want to help create those for them (or watch as they create their own). Here's to memories and stories and all that we go through to build them!
